Batelco Sponsors National Environment Protection Campaign Together for a Better Environment

Batelco, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, was a major sponsor of the recent National Environment Protection Campaign festival. The event, organised by the Bahrain Ladies Society, was held under the patronage of the Head of Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Life Resources, Environment & Wildlife Governor of the Southern Governorate HE Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Dr. Adel Khalif AL Zayani, Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources Environment and Wildlife represented Shaikh Abdulla on the occasion.

  Better Environment

The main purpose of the event, with the theme "Together for a Better Environment", was to enhance society's awareness about the use of plastic bags which continue to have a detrimental affect on the environment in Bahrain and its surrounding sea. The event also encouraged the development of traditional industries, such as pottery and basket making that could help in providing substitutes for plastic products used for various purposes.

Discussions were held on the pros and cons of replacing plastic with alternative materials leading to a healthier environment. Participants urged the public to use paper or cotton bags for food that is normally hot when served fresh, such as traditional bread or chick-peas.

In addition to Batelco's sponsorship, members of Batelco's staff volunteer group, Hearts & Minds were in attendance to support the organisers on the occasion. Batelco Hearts & Minds members participate in a variety of community events every year.
